Millennium Golf Course Vilamoura Overview

The five courses at Vilamoura are world renowned for providing quality golf in environmentally friendly surroundings. Darren Clarke described the courses as ´ five jewels in the one crown.´ The courses have recently been acquired by Oceanico group and within the next year there are two more golf courses due to open, The Faldo Course and The O´Connor Course, which should firmly establish Vilamoura as Europe´s premier golfing destination.
The Laguna and The Millenium Course both share the same clubhouse and there are 2 chipping greens, 3 putting greens and a large driving range for a bit of pre-match practice.
The Millenium Course was designed by English architect, Martin Hawtree, and opened in May 2000. The Millenium Course has two distinct faces -5 of the holes on the front nine are set in beautiful parkland, distinctly similar to the Old Course and many of the others are in more open territory, open to the wind and some strategically placed water features.
Both of the courses offer the golfer with a challenging, fun round and in the future, once the thousands of trees that have been planted are fully grown and proper investments are made into course maintenance, both the Millenium and Laguna will equal the quality of The Old Course and Victoria. However, at the moment the quality is reflected in the price.

    Millenium - very poor

    Played it last year along with Old Course and Victoria. The Millenium was miles apart from both these other courses in terms of condition - very very poor, both greens and fairways. It felt like a local public course at home where no real effort spent. It would be grand if for same or very little difference you can play old course or Victoria where you can not fault either conditioning or setting. What surprised us the most was that Millenium is so busy but I suspect Oceanica will have to upgrade it drastically as its becoming a very distant and poor relation compared to the other courses in the Oceanica collection For anyone of any ability who likes to enjoy golf I dont think you will find this enjoyable Tip - If you are going to play it play it first because you will be bitterly disappointed if you play it last after playing any of the other courses
