Koala Garden Overview

The Koala Garden is the only Australian restaurant in all of Portugal. Located in the central Algarve resort of Albufeira , you can count on excellent food, an original menu and a great Aussie welcome.

The restaurant is spacious and designed for comfort. The indoor dining room is bright and cheerful and seating on the outside garden terrace is always at a premium during the summer months. There is a great play room for children towards the back of the restaurant. Besides having a small pool table to the delight every child, free of charge to the delight of every parent, there are games, toys and plenty of colouring materials. Best of all the room has only one entrance/exit meaning parents can enjoy a relaxed meal knowing their children are not able to wander off.

Rowan, owner and chef at Koala Garden has plied his trade around the globe. He settled in the Algarve many years ago and over time has managed to source the best Australian products he can. Many of the ingredients used in Australian dishes are specially imported. So you can be assured that if you order a special Australian dish at Koala , you are getting authentic Australian flavours.

The menu at Koala Garden features International, British and obviously, Australian cuisine. There is a great range of starters - Pumpkin and Bushnut soup, Bushtucker Tomato Soup and Gold Coast Curry Prawn Salad for example. There are gammon steaks, 23 oz! sirloin, a lovely cod fillet in a chardonnay and prawn sauce, great garlic prawns and curries. The aussie dishes include kangaroo steaks that are fat free, ostrich fillet and crocodile steaks. Leave room for the desserts, though. They are all homemade and very delicious. Koala also offers a very good range of vegetarian dishes and a kids menu.

Koala is a little off the beaten track. It is located near to the famous “strip” at Montechoro where you can find enough nightlife to keep the most frenetic holiday maker happy. Although Koala is only a 5 minute walk from the strip it is a world apart.
