Captains Table Overview

The Captain’s Table can be found on the main street in Alvor, heading down towards the fishing harbour. It’s a smart choice for either lunch or dinner offering great food in a lovely setting.
From its slightly elevated position the restaurant’s terrace has fantastic views down to the river and across the estuary of the Ria Alvor. The sunsets from the small upper terrace are amazing. Although very small this terrace is perfect for a romantic meal – it seats just four, making it very private and the views are breathtaking.
Alvor is a quaint fishing village – fish and seafood restaurants abound. But sometimes you’ve just got to have a steak and The Captain’s Table does a very good steak. They have a wide selection of meat dishes, using quality produce. One of the house specials is the Chateaubriand and the fillet steaks are also excellent. The menu is varied, so even a group with different tastes can usually find dishes to keep all members happy. There are fish and seafood dishes, great steaks, curries, some wonderful pasta dishes as well as a good vegetarian menu.
The restaurant has a downstairs terrace, THE place for people watching and for enjoying the views. Indoors there are two dining rooms – the upper room is ideal for groups and private functions. The large aquarium forms a great centre piece in the restaurant – home to shellfish, lobster and a variety of fish.
The Captain’s Table is an Irish-Portuguese partnership. Cathy and Rogerio are well known to Alvor’s many regular visitors and they make sure all their clients are made to feel right at home.

    Our Favorite -

Monique Forsyth from Northern Ontario, Canada

We have visited Alvor twice in the last 4 years and are going back next month. Many of our diners are at the Captain's Table. We have had beautiful rack of lamb, many different fish dishes, excellent desert and of course the wine and port to go with it. We have had great service during all of our meals there. From conversations with George, the Chef and the owner who made a point of wishing us a good trip home and thanking us for dining at his establishment. We found the prices acceptable. Looking forward to seeing everyone once again.

Good Food but better value elsewhere

    David Collier from Drogheda

I used to be a regular at the captains table and couldnt really fault it, although it was slightly more expensive that what was around it (still very reasonable though). Have since found other places that maybe offer better value, some of which offere better food too.

    Great Restaurant - Good Value!

    Melanie from Silves

We live here and had some friends over. We have found the review very interesting and went to try this restaurant and we loved it! We started off with some bread, carrotts, olives and home made fish cream. We all had starters (soups, clams and cheese) which were very pleasant. As main courses we had opted for fish dishes (curry, sword fish, monkfish) and all of it was just perfectly cooked. The restaurant was quite busy that night, but the waiters were always there when we wanted something and they were very friendly. All in all this was a great dinner and we can only recommend this place. We will be back for sure!
