The Michelin starred restaurant Sao Gabriel is one of the finest around. Close to the famous Algarve resorts of Vale do Lobo and Quinta do Lago, it was founded by Swissman Rudi Maerkle 10 years ago. and has gone from strength to strength with the kitchen under the direction of chef Torsten Schulz
The restaurant itself is set in a beautiful old villa surrounded by luscious gardens. Palm trees, buganvilia, birds of paradise and sub-tropical plants add to the magical ambience. Al fresco dining here is unforgettable. Inside the decor is stylish and the layout provides many little dining coves and niches for a more private dining experience. The traditional decoration is very Algarve with hand painted tiles adorning the walls.
Sao Gabriel serves international cuisine such as lamb, beef and fish dishes added to with fresh produce from the area and herbs from their garden. The food and service, as one would expect from a restaurant that has won the accolade of a Michelin Star is superb and the presentation of each dish is a work of art in itself. Wine can be bought by the glass which is perfect for a meal that provides you with such a range of flavours and the sommelier is onhand to offer advice and recommendations
The atmosphere at São Gabriel is relaxed and unpretentious for a Michelin star restaurant. Led by manager Susy Luginbuehl, the staff are attentive and friendly. Susy has a wonderful welcome for all her clients, quickly putting each visitor at their ease and allowing them to fully enjoy the São Gabriel experience.
From February to November, the São Gabriel Thai Garden is open within the gardens of the main restaurant. With Thai chefs and staff, this is an authentic taste of Thailand in the Algarve serving superb food in an unique setting.
