Pequeno Mundo Overview

Pequeno Mundo is set in an old villa, serving French cuisine amidst traditional surroundings. The restaurant has an attractive bar area with open fire and in summer has two terraces for al fresco dining, one in the courtyard of the villa and the other at the back facing the villas gardens. The terraces create a fantastic setting for a dinner in the warmer times of year.

Our dinner here was superb from start to finish, pan fried foie gras as a starter and then we shared the chateaubriande with garlic potatoes and green beans, which proved to be a popular dish amongst the other diners in the restaurant, some who were obviously regulars but still looked in excited anticipation as the meat was being cut. We finished the meal with some French cheeses and a Crepe Suzutte. The restaurant has an extensive wine cellar, with rare ports and whiskeys to accompany your meal or to buy if you wish.

Pequeno Mundo comes thoroughly recommended for a high quality meal in spectacular surroundings.

I would give it 6 stars if I could. The most wonderful restaurant for any romantic occasion. Yes, it's pricey - but not for this quality. Atmospheric and cosy, with superb staff who really know their job - oh, and the food is superb! I couldn't fault it and go back time and again - but only for special occasions! Thoroughly recommended - not foundany other restaurant to match it - anywhere!

The Finest Restaurant in the World

I have frequented this restaurant since 1993.I have travelled the world several times and at no time have I ever encountered such a "complete" restaurant.Everything,and I mean everything is 1st class.For this I applaud the proprietors and all of the staff,absolutely 1st class.

My favourite restaurant

We've been going to Pequeno Mundo since it opened and it remains the best restaurant in the Algarve, with the most consistently brilliant food and charming service. Everyone I have taken there has loved it and been impressed by the staff and the food. You often spot an English celebrity there, but the good thing is PQ is so under-stated that people only really find it through word of mouth. The prawns in light batter and the raspberry crousilliant are always delicious. Pequeno Mundo always makes our holiday.

Select the right table

We have visited Pequeno Mundo for more than eight years. The quiet and beautiful ambience remains to delight you. But, make sure that you get a good table if you are outside on the back terrace. We had table number 25, which is situated facing the round metal heating tower. It spoiled the evening. Even the delicious meal couldn't compensate for the ugliness of the view, and the table squashed against the wall. So, if you are looking forward to PM, request an exact table location. Otherwise, the food and service is impeccable.

Had Pequeno Mundo reccomended by a local for a special meal. We were advised it was pricey, but were also told it was far better than any other restaurant in the Algarve. We were a party of 6 with two fussy eaters, but to a man thought it was the best meal we had ever eaten. The setting is perfect (outside on a warm summer evening), the staff unobtusive and unhurried, the wine brilliant, and the food spectacular. Forget Michellin stars this doesn't need them. Oh! and not anywhere near as pricey as expected! We have already returned and are going back with a group of 8 in June 2009. By the way book early.

Exellent food, service and ambiance

We have been going frequently to Pequeno Mundo in the last five years, mainly in the winter. (We are not here in the summer). We rate it higher than the Michelin stared places, where we also have been several times.

First time here,i personally enjoyed it much more than Amadeus.The prices not for the faint hearted but a real treat,a memorable experience great food in fantastic setting.Staff were efficient without being intrusive.Thoroughly recommend it but you would need to go to Marufo's a few times to balance the holiday budget.

The best atmosphere in the world

I have returned to this spectacular restaurant many times in the last 6-7 years. It has by far the best atmosphere and the best service I have experienced, not only in Portugal but worldwide. Very reasonable for the quality of the food and the experience.

Pequeno Mundo is an eating experience without equal. The setting, the service, the range and quality of the food are all excellent. A visit to the Algarve is not complete unless you visit Pequeno Mundo.

Pequeno Mundo has for years been among the very best restaurants in The Algarve and it continues to deliver quality food for the discerning palate with remarkable consistency in the most ambient of settings. The experience is pricey but well worth it, so it is for special occasions. Book well in advance. 9/10 for food and 8/10 for service.

I have been going to this restaurant since the year it opened and went to the owners other restaurant prior to pequeno's opening. Every year we are greeted with the friendliest of welcomes and the food is consistently amazing. Atmoshpere cannot be beaten anywhere in Quinta da Lago.
