Casa Velha exudes a timeless charm, elegance and comfort. The ambience complements the magnificent setting, the welcome is warm and the cuisine is first rate. The enjoyment of a fine meal here is not limited to just your taste buds – the whole experience is to be savoured and enjoyed.

Casa Velha occupies a prime location in Quinta do Lago – one of the Algarve’s premier resorts. Sitting atop a hill, the restaurant overlooks the resort, its golf courses and lake. The name Casa Velha translates from the Portuguese as the “Old House”. In more than a century of existence, Casa Velha has seen amazing changes in its surroundings. The restaurant is the original hub of the dream that became Quinta do Lago. In the 1970’s Andre Jourdan used the house as planning centre, clubhouse and, of course, restaurant. In fact Casa Velha was the first restaurant of its kind in the Algarve.

Yannick and Celine Guichaoua, your hosts, have turned hospitality into a fine art. They welcome each guest as if to their own home. They want you to dine well, to enjoy the lovely surroundings and to leave replete with good feelings. Originally from Brittany, chef Yannick has honed his craft in some of the most prestigious restaurants in France. The cuisine at Casa Velha draws strongly on classical French influences. Yannick also insists on using as much fresh, local produce of excellent quality as possible allowing him to give a new and creative twist to classic dishes, introducing Mediterranean and north African flavours.

The menu varies with the seasons, to make best use of the freshest produce, and can include Foie Gras, fresh scallops, sea bass and lobster. The meat is of exceptional quality (Yannick insists on Irish beef and lamb). The wine list extensive and comprehensive, featuring the best of Portuguese wines and some French classics. Here the sommelier is happy to assist in choosing the right wine for the occasion.

At Casa Velha, Yannick and his team cook for your enjoyment – the food is to be savoured. This lovely old building, with its wonderful decoration, feeds the rest of your senses. The layout of the original Casa Velha has been well used to create a welcoming and comfortable restaurant. The original wooden doors lead into the large lounge area and onto the dining room - dominated by the magnificent open fireplace – the place of choice for winter dining. The walls of the restaurant are adorned with original artwork and sculptures that draw the eye. The courtyard is an oasis of calm, decorated with flowing bougainvillea and with the soothing sounds of a central fountain – al fresco dining at its very best.
