Albufeira is located right in the centre of the Algarve and has a good mix of things to do, with beaches, golf courses nearby, local culture and a wide variety of restaurants and bars. Until the 1960’s Albufeira was a quiet fishing village like most of the Algarve but has since become a popular tourist destination thanks to its sandy beaches, in particular Praia dos Pescadores or Fisherman´s Beach. Albufeira certainly has the liveliest nightlife within the Algarve, the focal point being in its more modern centre which is 2km to the East at Montechoro. Here you can find lots of English style pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants along what has been nicknamed ‘the strip.’ The old town is centered around the main square which is a short walk from the beach and has numerous restaurants serving a variety of food. Fresh grilled sardines don’t come much fresher than in these restaurants. There is also lots of night time entertainment in these quarters if you don’t fancy the taxi ride to the strip.
